EXPLORE LIKE A LOCAL

It’s just like having a local friend to show you around. And that friend just happens to be a professional tour guide.

GREAT VALUE

The same information you would get on a bus tour or from a guide book, for just a fraction of the price. And you control the itinerary and schedule.

WORKS OFFLINE

No data, cellular or even wireless network connection needed while touring. Download over Wi-Fi before you tour. Anyone can use them with no need for roaming data – even visiting from another country.

DRIVING TOUR ROUTE

The tour includes the most popular sightseeing stops and many more:

1) Johnston Canyon
2) Lake Louise
3) Moraine Lake
4) Spiral Tunnels
5) Emerald Lake
6) Natural Bridge
7) Takakkaw Falls

You can start this tour by driving from Banff, anywhere in Lake Louise or even if you are approaching from the west in Field, BC. Commentary runs in both directions everywhere on the route.

CANADIAN ROCKIES GyPSy Guide Tours

This tour is a part of a set of tour apps by GyPSy Guide to explore the Canadian Rockies National Parks. Other tours in the series include:

* The Icefields Parkway
* Jasper National Park
* Banff Townsite and Area

For BEST VALUE, you may prefer to download the Canadian Rockies GyPSy Guide which includes all of these too.

NOTES

Download the app on Wi-Fi from your network at home or use any free Wi-Fi network. Because the app is filled with audio commentary and maps, its larger than "normal" apps. Many phone/data networks may block the download because of size - so its important to download over a Wi-Fi network.

++ Continued use of GPS running in the background increases battery usage - we strongly recommend taking a cigarette style (DC outlet) car charger. This is much better than simply plugging into the USB port in a vehicle.

** iPad users - please note that WiFi-only iPads will not activate the commentary automatically. Any iPhone or network-capable iPad (WiFi + Cellular - whether you have a network connection or not) will work just fine.

Pros and cons of Banff Lake Louise Yoho GyPSy app for iPhone and iPad

Banff Lake Louise Yoho GyPSy app good for

I somehow stumbled across these apps before our planned trip to Banff. I was able to download the Calgary to Banff trip for free. Im so glad that I was able to try it out. I found myself excited to purchase the bundle of four additional tours. Having a personal guide with a pleasant voice in the car to give helpful directions and interesting commentary was well worth $14.99 of our total vacation budget. And I loved that the app doesnt use cellular data on my phone! My only complaint is that while the app was able to track my location and a window would pop up for commentary at the right points, sometimes the audio would automatically play and sometimes it wouldnt. If the passenger wasnt keeping a close eye on those pop ups, we would miss those commentaries. It really wasnt a problem for us, but it could be if you were traveling solo.
I have bought and used about 7 of these guides. They are informative on many subjects. Geology, history, etc. They load onto your phone or iPad and there is no need for an Internet connection. Works on GPS! We run it through our car radio so we can hear it perfectly!
We were told about this App by a stranger. Glad we listened. We were able to drive and see ALL the places with historical background. It even told us inside tricks for parking, food, gas etc. as well as alternative scenic routes. Worth every penny spent.
Very useful guide. It work well with out connect with Internet.
Wish I had known about this app sooner! Great detailed tour guide. Fun side stories, interesting history and very detailed directions. Hope they make more of these for more destinations!
We used four of these apps throughout our stay in the Canadian Rockies. It is very well done, super informative and has really great information as well as anecdotes. I would recommend previewing the major points to get a sense of what you may want to see in order to plan your visit. I would also investigate how to hook up the Bluetooth feature of your car prior to starting off as it can be a little tricky. Overall an excellent app and I would highly recommend it!

Some bad moments

Really disappointed that it only works in one direction. Literally Banff to Lake Louise to Yoho, does not work on the return trip. It has some good stuff, but a bit too much "things to do" type information for my tastes.
I downloaded this as opposed to renting the actual Gypsy guide and I regret it. It was supposed to automatically acknowledge the selected path once you drove past the start point but it didnt. I was able to play the points manually but had to guess where they were. Not to mention the danger of taking you eyes off the road to play them manually. I bought all the ones associated with Banff/Jasper national parks and it was a complete waste of money.
This app is easy to use and gives interesting commentary and information about the area.
Found out about this app through a brochure in the resort. Downloaded the lake Louis - Yo Yo route. Note, audio portion plays when you start traveling. Audio guide was clear, relevant and interesting. We have downloaded the Jasper Iceland guide for our next trip. Good investment for your trip.
Do not take this trip without this app! Please add music pause and resume between tour commentaries
I read a lot about the GPS you can rent for your car, but the cost seemed high since we are doing a 3wk tour. The apps are fantastic, so much information, trivia, places to see and history. Uses no data- which was huge since we added a limited data for our international travel. These are worth the cost! Highly recommend!
